Obama admin trained ISIS jihadists in 2012

We reap what we sow.

It turns out that ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria), the militant jihadists wreaking havoc in Iraq and against whom the Obama administration dispatched “combat equipped” troops to protect the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, had been trained by none other than the Obama administration.

Aaron Klein reports for WND, June 17, 2014, that members of ISIS were trained in 2012 by U.S. instructors working at a secret base in Jordan, according to informed Jordanian officials.

The officials said dozens of ISIS members were trained at the time as part of covert aid to the insurgents targeting the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Syria. The officials said the training was not meant to be used for any future campaign in Iraq.

The Jordanian officials said all ISIS members who received U.S. training to fight in Syria were first vetted for any links to extremist groups like al-Qaida.

Note: That is naive in the extreme. The very name of ISIS speaks to their territorial ambitions of creating a caliphate over a wide swath of land in the Middle East, including Cyprus, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, and part of southern Turkey.

In February 2012, WND was first to report the U.S., Turkey and Jordan were running a training base for the Syrian rebels in the Jordanian town of Safawi in the country’s northern desert region. That report has since been corroborated by numerous other media accounts.

Last March, the German weekly Der Spiegel reported Americans were training Syrian rebels in Jordan.

Quoting what it said were training participants and organizers, Der Spiegel reported it was not clear whether the Americans worked for private firms or were with the U.S. Army, but the magazine said some organizers wore uniforms. The training in Jordan reportedly focused on use of anti-tank weaponry.

The German magazine reported some 200 men received the training over the previous three months amid U.S. plans to train a total of 1,200 members of the Free Syrian Army in two camps in the south and the east of Jordan.

Britain’s Guardian newspaper also reported last March that U.S. trainers were aiding Syrian rebels in Jordan along with British and French instructors.

The Jordanian officials spoke to WND amid concern the sectarian violence in Iraq will spill over into their own country as well as into Syria.

ISIS previously posted a video on YouTube threatening to move on Jordan and “slaughter” King Abdullah, whom they view as an enemy of Islam.

WND reported last week that, according to Jordanian and Syrian regime sources, Saudi Arabia has been arming the ISIS and that the Saudis are a driving force in supporting the al-Qaida-linked group.

WND further reported that, according to a Shiite source in contact with a high official in the government of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, the Obama administration has been aware for two months that ISIS also was training fighters in Turkey. At least one of the training camps of the group Iraq of the ISIS, is in the vicinity of Incirlik Air Base near Adana, Turkey, where American personnel and equipment are located.

The Shiite source called Obama “an accomplice” in the attacks that are threatening the Maliki government the U.S. helped establish through the Iraq war. He said that after training in Turkey, thousands of ISIS fighters went to Iraq by way of Syria to join the effort to establish an Islamic caliphate subject to strict Islamic law, or Shariah.

Meanwhile, here’s the latest on ISIS in Iraq:

  • Obama said today, June 19, that 300 more troops would be sent to Iraq to “train, advise, support” Iraq’s security forces. (Source)
  • U.S. is already flying armed F-18 fighter jets on “surveillance” missions over Iraq. (Source)
  • After a meeting with Obama, Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said the president “indicated he didn’t feel he had any need for authority from us for steps that he might take,” including air strikes. (Source)

Want more proof that Obama is stupid/diabolical (take your pick) in aiding, training, funding the Syrian so-called “rebels” against the Assad regime? Here it is: Among the Syrian “rebels” the Obama administration had trained were none other those ISIS militants who are now terrorizing Iraq, and against whom Obama had just deployed 300 *more* U.S. troops. Our fighter jets are already there, perfect targets for ISIS with their U.S.-made shoulder-launched surface-to-air Stinger missiles. What can go wrong? [Sarc]

  3. The CIA expanded the Obama approved training of Syrian militants ie.jihadists. And who is the head of the CIA, none other than the apologist for the Muslim Brotherhood, if not himself a member, Director Brennan.
Thanks to the duplicity of this administration, and the stupidity of the previous one, which professed Islam as a ‘religion of peace, these Muslim freaks will come here to wreak havoc at the first opportunity. I have severe doubts of the willingness and ability of many ignorant Americans to defend themselves if they are faced by these forces of evil.

  4. While all of us know the Obamination is way overdue for impeachment, I read an excellent article recently by Dr Francis Boyle, likely the USA’s greatest Constiutionalist lawyer, that Congress is now so corrupt that it’s impossible to find a quorum for impeachment.

    And that’s why we’re stuck.

The current policy confusion that has settled down on the present administration is the direct consequence of its failure to assess the nature of the celebrated “Arab Spring” that was somehow to bring with it a freshet of political democracy to a region where it was unknown. In the course of the enthusiasm, Washington enthused after the overthrow of the Egyptian and Libyan military dictatorships — irrespective of the fact that those systems directly and /or indirectly served our foreign policy and security interests. In the one case we got the Muslim Brotherhood, and in the other, a collection of radical jihadist organizations — all averse to our general interests. As though that were not enough, we decided to “liberate” Syria from the trammels of Bashar al Assad — in the course of which we decided to train and arms the “Arab rebels” who turned out to be among the most violent jihadists in the region. The “Arab spring” was supposed to seal our departure from Afghanistan (and Iraq), leaving behind flourishing democracy. What it did was to create an existential threat to Saudi Arabia, Israel, Jordan, Turkey, and the Emirates. For a while it seemed we were prepared to welcome Iranian boots on the ground in order to pull our chestnuts out of the fire. We are now left with a monumental confusion of our own making, for which the wretched people of the region will be forced to pay.

  6. It might still be a bit early on this sticky one already, but this much figures. Endgame notwithstanding, these “Stewards of Satan” will do business of, seemingly, any kind with any dastardly culprit sucker enough to get involved with them. A war on terrorism is not simple as running the old hamburger mill and mashed potatoe factory. Nobody is winning homes, lands or any other objectives in this newly-developed picture. Again I would suggest this a sign that there is a pack of inconvenient deficits in the Pentagon’s planning dept.; not an excuse for terrorism, but an indicator that Congressional constraints would be more entirely fitting for Gov’t work.

  7. Thank you StMA for this most significant post. Upon reviewing this information, and the timing, it seems illogical to me that the king and his administration had no knowledge that the Syrians they were training were potentially ISIS terrorists. We have superior intelligence abilities; accordingly, I do not believe that this administration was at all surprised of what happened in Iraq by ISIS. In light of the king’s disobedience of laws, his disregard of the U.S. Constitution, its related by-laws and applicable laws at issue, one must question his real goals for our nation and its allies. His past behavior should call into question what has happened here.
